Permit #XXXXXXX New Canaan to North Stamford Temporary Water Transmission Main Installation along Merritt Parkway.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that Aquarion Water Company will be installing a temporary water transmission main along the Merritt Parkway from Exit 36 into North Stamford. Lane Closures and short-term traffic halts will occur between midnight and 5 a.m.

The project consists of installing 7,900 feet of above ground 18” High Density Polyethelene water main ALONG the Southbound shoulder in portions of New Canaan and Stamford. This work will take place between Exits 36 and 35 on the Merritt Parkway, the temporary water main work may require lane closures and traffic halts on the Merritt Parkway. Construction activities are scheduled to occur between Monday, November 14, 2016 through Friday, November 25, 2016.

This project is being performed by the Aquarion Water Company.


Motorists can expect lane closures and traffic halts on Merritt Parkway South between Exits 36 and 35. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. During the traffic halts State Police cruisers and crash trucks will be used to stop all traffic flow for 15 minutes at a time between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Several traffic halts are expected during the work hours. The regular work schedule for this project is 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Monday through Saturday).

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
